"How Do I Cook Fish?"

Caught Some Fish? Read on to Find Out the Best Ways to Cook Your Fish
By James Fletcher

There a few different ways to cook the fish you have just caught. Below is a list of the most popular ways to cook a fish.

1) Frying - Frying a fish is the most common way of cooking. When frying you can choose to either pan fry or to deep fry.
When shallow frying in a pan you should have around half an inch of oil in the bottom of your pan. Make sure this fish is
floured and patted dry. This oil should be heated so it is very hot. To test if it is hot enough, drop a little water into the pan.
If it spits up it is at the right temperature. Keep the oil at this temperature when cooking to prevent the fish from going soggy.

To deep fry the process is much the same. Be sure to follow the instructions on your deep fryer and be careful. Many
accidents occur in the kitchen due to deep frying.

2) Grilling - When grilling a large piece of fish, it is important to cook the fish entirely throughout. If it is a large fish, cut
some slits throughout the fish to ensure the inside cooks at the same rate as the outside. Try to put the fish on the cooler
part of the grill so the fish cooks slowly and evenly. Grilling is a healthier option than frying.

3) Oven cooking - Cooking your fish in the oven is probably the easiest way to cook a fish. Simply place the fish in some
foil and garnish. I like to use lemon (as well as some lemon rind for appearance), tomatoes, wine, parsley and butter
(or olive oil) to marinate the fish and then wrap it up in the foil. After a few minutes in the oven it is easy top open up the
foil and place a fork into the fish to see if it is ready.

4) Steaming - Steaming is the healthiest form of cooking fish. Steaming can be done by either using a steamer or by placing
the fish on a rack over the top of a large pan filled with water. Steaming takes longer to cook than the above methods. You can
also add items to the water such as vegetables and stock to give the steamed fish some more flavor. These vegetables can also
be eaten with the fish once cooked.

No matter how you cook your fish, the basic rule is to not overdo the flavors. Fish should be enjoyed relatively plain so you
can taste the delicate flavors of the fish.
